Cambrai Village is located in the Northern suburb of Merriwa, 39 kilometres north of Perth and only two kilometres from RAAFA Estate Merriwa. The first residents moved into the village in the year 2000 and Cambrai has maintained full occupancy since then. It’s easy to see why!

The village is only 5 kilometres from the ocean, with oceanside marinas and shopping centres close by. The major northern satellite town of Joondalup is only 15 minutes south of the village and provides all the central amenities needed, including everything from a major teaching hospital and university complex to the Head Offices of all major banks, financial institutions and medical services. Joondalup is surrounded by sporting facilities, movie theatres, restaurants and great shops! What more could you want in retirement. Ocean Keys Shopping Centre, just 5 minutes from the village by car is every shopper's dream with bank, restaurants, a great tavern and even a Bunnings store as an added bonus.  Then right next door to the village is the Merriwa Shopping Centre, only 5 minutes walk at the back of the village.

The Village consists of 273 three bedroom single level duplex homes, complete with remote controlled lock up garage and air conditioning among other features. The units are set in spacious grounds and are surroundered by community facilities including a heated pool, bowling and croquet greens and a licensed Club. The Lease price of a unit is now $285,000 and is granted on a Lease for Life contract.

Now completed in the centre of Cambrai Estate is a two storey, 80 bed, low care residential facility, Vivian  Bullwinkel Lodge. There is sense of excitement amongst the current Cambrai residents that this long awaited project has finally come to fruition.

As already mentioned, facilities on the Estate include a heated pool, bowling and croquet greens, Community Hall with fully equipped kitchen and separate meeting room, a chapel, a licensed club with dance floor and stage area, a restaurant (the Picardy Room), library, computer room, workshop and an administration centre.

Cambrai and Merriwa Estates share the services of a Welfare Officer who has an office on each estate. Other services include a hairdresser, podiatrist, beautician and denture service all working from a convenient location in the centre of the Estate.

The residents are well represented by an active Residents’ Branch Committee who initiate and raise funds for many projects and serve the residents’ in a wide range of interests and activities.

There are Club Social nights and regular social activities in the Club. Meals are served most days ranging from bar snacks at lunch time and the once a month Sunday roast, to a variety of great menus and theme nights on some evenings. Delicious!

A great feature of village life at Cambrai is the involvement of volunteers who serve the residents in many different ways from gardening for residents who struggle to keep up in that area, to paper collection on rubbish days, helping in the Club, driving Genevieve (our mobile village buggy) and our Village Bus etc. Great community spirit fostered here.

We have some 46 different activities in the village, ranging from Social bowls and computer training and use, to Scottish dancing and everything in between! We have a vigorous chapel life with church services for Catholic, Anglican and Ecumenical Church congregations. An important feature of village life at Cambrai is the activities organized by the Commemorations Committee, celebrating the important memorial events involving our ex-service men and women.

All in all, Cambrai is an open and happy place to live with good co-operation between staff and residents and a caring and supportive environment for residents to enjoy their retirement years.
