OVERVIEW

RAAFA Amity Village Albany has excellent on-site facilities and a wide range of social activities. Many residents maintain their current memberships of clubs and community groups in the wider community.
Residents benefit from a supportive community, significantly reduced home maintenance and gardening obligations enabling more time to be spent on personal interests.

A Village Bus provides local shopping trips and social outings. The Spencer Park bus (Route 201) passes the estate. Active residents walk into town or Spencer Park. A variety of community buses also visit the village and taxis are just a call away.

RAAFA Amity Village Albany a close-knit and contented community whose members share similar values while accepting the individuality of each person. As with all estates operated by the Royal Australian Air Force Association, Amity Village is all about caring and sharing.

The name RAAFA Amity Village was chosen to link the estate with the broader community of Albany and the heritage that name carries. The Brig "Amity" sailed into King George Sound on Christmas Day 1826 to establish the first European settlement in Western Australia. The contingent of men on the Amity started their voyage in Sydney little knowing that they had embarked on the beginning of a new life and were laying the foundations of what would become the great State of Western Australia.

Moving to Amity Village is symbolic of those first settlers in that it represents the beginning of a new and active lifestyle for residents. To continue the Amity theme, all the roads at Amity Village carry names associated with the Brig and its historic voyage to Albany nearly 180 years ago. It was recently discovered that the Brig was itself named after the French word Amity which means ‘peace and harmony’.  RAAFA Amity Village is situated on the corner of Ulster Road and North Road, Albany, Western Australia  6330.

ACTIVE LIVING

golfLike all RAAFA retirement estates RAAFA Amity Village has a busy social calendar for residents. On most days there are several activities and often there is a key event.

Some are organised by the Social Committee, and others by residents getting together independently. There are card nights, bingo, frequent social evenings with dancing and live music, happy hours, sausage sizzles, indoor bowls, a craft group, workshop, pool and bridge etc.  Mystery bus tours are very popular and take in the beautiful natural scenery and often include local wineries and cafes.

Residents on each RAAFA estate publish their own regular newsletters advising of upcoming events and the Association publishes the bi-monthly AIR MAIL newspaper, which covers a wide variety of topics of interest to members and provides a comprehensive list of activities that estate residents can attend.

There is certainly no shortage of things to keep you active when you live on a RAAFA estate. In fact some people say they have never been more active in their lives. Many estate residents form their own special interest groups and quite a few are members of clubs outside the estates. They pursue varied activities including bush walking, cycling, book clubs and computers. The lifestyle on RAAFA retirement estates is based on community involvement and "looking out for each other" but it is also actively outgoing.
