| RAAFA Amity Village The vision for RAAFA Amity Village is that of a close-knit and contented community whose members share similar values while accepting the individuality of each person. As with all estates operated by the Royal Australian Air Force Association, Amity Village will be all about caring and sharing. The name RAAFA Amity Village was chosen to link the estate with the broader community of Albany and the heritage that name carries. The Brig "Amity" sailed into King George Sound on Christmas Day 1826 to establish the first European settlement in Western Australia. The contingent of men on the Amity started their voyage in Sydney little knowing that they had embarked on the beginning of a new life and were laying the foundations of what would become the great State of Western Australia. Moving to Amity Village is symbolic of those first settlers in that it represents the beginning of a new and active lifestyle for residents. Interestingly, on hoard the Amity were soldiers of the 57th Regiment who were colloquially known as the "Diehards" - a fitting expression that could describe Amity Village residents. To
continue the Amity theme, all the roads at Amity Village carry names
associated with the Brig and its historic voyage to Albany nearly 180
years ago. |
