MMA’s LIVERY EVOLUTION

In the immediate post-war period MMAs livery was polished metal with the company’s name DC-3 Polished metaldisplayed prominently above the windows. The initials MMA are prominently displayed on the tail. This DC-3s name,‘RMA Fortescue’ is painted boldly on its nose.

 Viscount

When MMA began using jet airliners in the 1960s it adopted a new livery of white, light blue and deep blue. The full name of the airline was contracted to its initials and the term ‘Jetstream Service’ appeared above or below the windows. The MMA initials still appeared on the tail.

 Ansett livery

When Ansett Transport Industries acquired MMA the livery changed to the standard Ansett livery of the time of white, black and red. The symbol on the tail, a big red A, was standard to all aircraft operated by Ansett Transport Industries and the MMA initials were in the place where the word ‘Ansett’ usually appeared on Ansett airliners. DH144

 Airlines of WA

The livery changed again when the airline was renamed Airlines of Western Australia. The livery was different from the standard Ansett livery but, as the old airline was absorbed into the Ansett networks, it adopted standard Ansett liveries. The airline was variously called Ansett Air West and Air WA, eventually any special reference to Western Australia was dropped.
