RESEARCH FACILITIES

The Aviation Heritage Museum has an extensive collection of books, journals and documentary material, as well as photographs and, of course, the artefacts on display. They are all available for research to members of the public.

LIBRARY

The Museum library has been built up since the 1960s and currently contains about 10 000 items. The collection includes an extensive range of books, many of them out of print and rare, aviation magazines going back to the 1920s and a large number of training, airframe, engine and handling manuals. In addition the library has an large collection of miscellaneous material organised by subject for ready access. The collection is catalogued on computer to aid location and research. Many of the library workers have extensive personal knowledge of aviation history and can answer many requests for information easily. They can also guide people who are doing their own research.

PHOTOGRAPHIC RECORDS

Photo 11 The Museum's photographic collection has been built up over the years and now includes around 30 000 images. Many have been donated by people from their own collections and some date back to the earliest days of aviation. A great deal of the photographic material concentrates on military and Western Australian aviation. The collection is catalogued on computer and museum staff are available to assist researchers.

MUSEUM ARTEFACTS

Photo 7 Most of the Museum's collection is on display and available for viewing by members of the public and researchers. Museum guides are happy to assist visitors with any enquiries they may have regarding the material on display and can guide them to further resources if required.

COST OF SERVICES

Photo 13 In general the Museum provides answers to simple requests free of charge. If researchers visit the Museum personally they pay the entrance fee and are then also free to visit the rest of the Museum. Most research done by Museum staff which takes less than 30 minutes is done free of charge but for longer research there is a fee starting at $4 for each half hour (including the first half hour) which may cost more depending upon the complexity of what is required. There is also a charge for photocopying starting at 50¢ for one copy and going to 20¢ per copy for four or more copies. The cost of photographic prints averages from $5 to $8 per print depending on size and proposed use. Please let us know in advance of any personal research you would like to carryout at our Museum.
